Very similar birds are the Lory and Lorikeet with the main difference being just the length of the tail. Lorikeets have longer tail feathers like those of a Parakeet. The eye catching, vivid color of the Rainbow Lory makes the Lory very popular with bird lovers.
Lories and Lorikeets are best kept in outdoor aviaries due to the messiness caused by their diets. The watery droppings make it very difficult to keep the cage and surroundings of a Lory clean.
Lories and Lorikeets can not be kept with other species of pet birds and although they often warm to their human owners, the acceptance of a human companion is unreliable.
